Manga has a darker side. For those who like more Psychological/Horror stories there are plenty in Manga. A lot of these stories deal with depression, post-apocalyptic worlds, suicide, perversion, death, etc. An article on Honey's Anime listed 10 of the darkest manga series out there, and some of them sounded legitimately terrifying.

One of the names that stood out on the list was famed Horror Manga writer/artist Junji Ito, whose works on Gyo and Uzumaki have made him synonymous with horror. Both series have become well know for their graphic and disturbing imagery as well as the psychological themes that are explored in them.

Although these types of series are not for me, I can safely say that horror fans can definitely find something to their liking in the world of Manga with mangaka like Junji Ito in the industry.
