Amongst the numerous genres found in Manga and Anime there is undoubtedly a few that perform best with readers/viewers. According to an article on Anime Motivation, the 6 most popular genres based on views and sales are,
Shōnen
Supernatural
Slice of Life
Romance
Magic
Action
It's no surprise that Shōnen would find itself on the list. No less at the top of it as Shōnen is such a large genre encapsulating so many different series, and beloved series at that. It's also not hard to see why the other genres on the list find themselves there. A lot of Action series could actually fall into the Shōnen genre and thus it makes sense to appear there. Supernatural and Magic genres both containing Fantasy elements of some sort also make sense as the Fantasy genre is incredibly popular in both the East and the West. Likewise with Slice of Life and Romance, they are also popular in not only the East, but the West as well. Therefore it makes sense for them to be on the list too.
